Pandora Expo
The Pandora exhibition: Edouard Nemeth, Maciej Strupczewski, Leopold Meskens.
Project Pandora was a joint project, spearheaded by Edouard Nemeth, Leopold Meskens and myself. Our aim was to breathe new life into the myth of Pandora, a breath of modernity, far from paternalistic or sexist tellings of the past. We decided Pandora would be both gender fluid and gender neutral, while retaining and exploring her feminity, and or masculinity.
Each of us had a personal relationship to the project, as well as to the myth. Each of us therefore desired to express our interpretation of Pandora's myth.
My approach, through sculpture, was to aim to understand, sympathise, empathise and embody Pandora's emotional range. Her experiences, her goals, her aims and her desires in a world which condemed her for all those things that we would today consider a beautiful, first and foremost of which: curiosity.
Each sculpture was a translation, and a formalisastion of an exercise of empathy and embodiment.
