About me
My name is Maciej Jan Strupczewski. I have been a sculptor for the past 10 years, working in diverse materials, with a specialization in plaster. Over the years I have experimented with plaster and gypsum and found singular and unusual ways of coloring it, giving it a patina and glaze finish and working it to make diverse organic, marine and mineral shapes. This signature technique can only be found in my work, it is unique to my production and to my process.

The aim of my work is to create creatures, organisms and crystal formations that exist within my dream space and my emotional space. These forms are translations, and formalizations of things that exist within me, and that I hope to share with the world, in the hopes of speaking to some of the things that these creatures, organisms, crystals and beings evoke within me.

In my work I approach emotion, I attempt to give it shape and presence in the physical space. My belief is that our world gives little space to emotion, it is secondary to most things, despite it being the root of most things. We live through emotion, our experience of life is possible only through the complex, multi-faceted, endless world of emotion.

Emotions, much like our deep oceans, are layered, endless depths of beauty, diversity and color. In each feeling is contained a myriad of others, and much like coral; emotions are born of each other, layer themselves, and grow in relation to each other.

As such, my aim is to give that birth, that growth and that sedimentation a place to exist through form and spatiality. Each sculpture represents emotion, in all its complexity, meaning also that each sculpture, whatever my intent may be, may speak to an emotion within the observer. Names are given to each sculpture, sometimes in the form of cypher keys, sometimes in the form of interpretations or associations.

I invite you to discover my work in the Portfolio tab, and to contact me with any questions concerning the work, or its purchase. Welcome to my world of crystal, organic mineral creatures and beings, I hope they will speak to you.
